The Katsina State Police Command has taken into custody a newlywed woman accused of killing her husband just three days after their wedding in Jibia Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesman, Abubakar Aliyu, in a statement yesterday, said the groom was discovered inside his home in Tashar Buja community and later confirmed dead at the hospital.

Aliyu said: “On November 23, 2025, about 1:30p.m., a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.

“Detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where the victim was found with a deep cut to his neck.

He was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.”

He added that one suspect, believed to be the wife of the deceased, is currently in police custody as investigation into the incident continues.

Community members told Vanguard that the deceased, identified as Abubakar, popularly known as Dan Gaske, had married the suspect, Zainab Muhammad, on Thursday, only for the tragedy to occur on Sunday afternoon.

Local sources claimed that the bride allegedly attacked her husband while he was asleep and later visited a neighbour to request food, prompting suspicion among women in the area.

They followed her home, where they reportedly found the groom unresponsive.

Family members of the deceased refuted suggestions that the marriage was arranged or forced, insisting the couple had been on good terms leading up to their wedding.
