A fresh wave of cult violence has swept through the Awoyaya axis of Lagos, leaving at least one person feared dead following a bloody confrontation between suspected Aiye and Eiye members.
The incident, captured in several videos circulated on the Telegram channel Naija Confra known for highlighting cult-related activities triggered widespread panic as residents fled to safety while the clash intensified.
The hostility, which reportedly erupted on Monday and extended into Tuesday, resulted in the death of a young man identified simply as Pelebe.
A short video clip showed him dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt, lying helplessly on the ground.
Another video posted on Wednesday showed residents scampering for safety as the violence unfolded, while some bystanders recorded from a distance.
Additional images revealed another victim nursing a gunshot wound to the leg.
“Earlier today (Tuesday), we reported a serious cult clash in the Awoyaya area of Ibeju-Lekki involving Eiye and Aiye, where killings happened yesterday (Monday) and today (Tuesday),” the post on Naija Confra partly read.
It further stated that another individual “was shot in the leg in the Iya Alagbo area” during a separate attack.
Although unverified reports indicated that security agents had made some arrests, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, told our correspondent she would “revert.” As of press time, no update had been issued.
The latest unrest comes barely two weeks after suspected cultists opened fire during the annual masquerade festival in Orile-Iganmu, heightening concerns over renewed cult activities across the state.
