A major traffic lockdown hit the Lagos Ibadan Expressway yesterday after a truck driver reportedly blocked both lanes at the Ogere corridor, accusing officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of extortion.

According to stranded commuters, the driver claimed that FRSC personnel had confiscated his truck battery, an action that allegedly triggered his decision to obstruct movement on the Ibadan-bound lane.

The situation quickly escalated as other truck drivers formed a solidarity blockade, extending the obstruction to the Lagos-bound section and bringing vehicular movement on the ever-busy highway to a total halt.

Security operatives, including officers of the Police and the Nigerian Army, were said to have made attempts to restore order, but their efforts were hampered by the aggrieved crowd, stalling immediate intervention.
