Panic swept through the Berger Suya axis of the Oshodi Apapa Expressway on Thursday evening as a fierce fire engulfed the popular second-hand tyre section of the sprawling auto spare parts market.
The blaze, which erupted around dusk, rapidly spread through rows of shops and open stalls, consuming tyres, vehicle parts and other goods worth millions of naira.
Thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky as traders and bystanders scrambled to salvage whatever they could from the advancing flames.
The cause of the inferno remained unclear as of press time, though eyewitnesses reported that it started suddenly and intensified before help arrived.
Meanwhile, emergency responders, “Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service are currently on ground to battle the raging fire.”
Details later.
