36yr-old Lagos realtor killed in estate parking dispute

A 36-year-old realtor, Yinka Agboola, has died after he was allegedly knocked down and run over by an unidentified driver during a dispute over a parking space at Royal Pine Estate on Orchid Road, Lekki, Lagos.

The confrontation was said to have erupted after residents challenged the suspect over improper parking that was obstructing movement within the estate.

Witnesses said the driver became aggressive when he was asked to move his car to ease traffic flow.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening.

An X user, @Ifeoluwaar, who drew public attention to the case in multiple posts on Thursday, said residents had offered the suspect an alternative parking space after observing that his vehicle blocked the road.

Instead of complying, he allegedly threatened to kill one of the residents.

According to the account, the situation escalated gradually, prompting Agboola, also a resident, to intervene in a bid to calm tensions.

“The situation began when the individual involved was politely asked to move his vehicle from the middle of the road to allow free movement.

“Despite being offered an alternative parking spot, he replied to a resident, ‘Do you know who I am? I will kill you right now,’” the post read.

The witness further alleged that the suspect got into his car and began reversing and accelerating recklessly.

Agboola was said to have attempted to restrain him, but the driver sped forward with the realtor hanging onto the steering wheel before smashing him against a pavement.

“Residents tried to stop him, but the suspect sped off with Yinka clinging to the wheel, then slammed the brakes, flinging him onto the pavement and into a gutter. He was left unconscious,” the account stated.

CCTV footage shared alongside the posts showed a white Mercedes-Benz reversing dangerously toward a group of people, while another clip captured the moment Agboola was struck.

Residents reportedly rushed the victim to the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital, as fundraising efforts for his treatment circulated across social media.

However, in a follow-up post on Wednesday, another user, @Omolomo, announced that Agboola had died in the early hours of the day.

The videos have heightened public calls for the police to track down the fleeing driver, with the car’s number plate widely shared online.

Agboola’s sister, Oluwadamilola, told The Nation that the matter had been formally reported at the Ajah Police Division.

“I went to the Ajah police station. The witnesses had already been there earlier, but I went yesterday to give my statement,” she said, adding that the suspect’s location is still unknown.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, requested that enquiries be sent via text message.

She had not responded as at press time.
