The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Sahabi Rabi’u, over the alleged murder of a nursing mother and her 10-month-old babyo in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesman Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the arrest in a statement, disclosing that the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime with the help of an accomplice who is currently at large.
According to the police, Rabi’u reportedly lured the 30-year-old woman and her infant to the outskirts of Sheme village, where they were brutally killed.
The suspect was said to have set the bodies ablaze before dumping the remains in a well.
Investigations so far suggest that the killings were linked to a dispute over the paternity of the child.
The bodies of the victims have been recovered. “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice,” the statement said.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, condemned the incident as “barbaric and inhumane.”
He appealed to residents to volunteer credible information that could lead to the arrest of the second suspect, assuring that all information provided would be handled with the utmost confidentiality.
