A soldier was shot dead and no fewer than 13 passengers abducted on Tuesday evening after gunmen staged coordinated attacks on two commercial vehicles along the Okene–Auchi Federal Highway.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the incident in a post on his official X handle, noting that the assailants, who were dressed in military uniforms, struck while the vehicles were in transit.

According to him, the attackers first intercepted a green Toyota Sienna conveying nine passengers from Abuja to Delta State.

Six of the occupants were reportedly whisked away, while others managed to escape.

The gunmen were said to have extended the operation to a white Toyota Hiace bus heading from Delta State to Abuja with 11 passengers on board.

“Seven passengers were abducted from the Hiace bus, while four were rescued,” the source said.

Makama added that a serving Non-Commissioned Officer of the Nigerian Army, who was among the passengers and had identified himself as a soldier, was shot dead by the attackers during the ambush.
