No fewer than seven passengers lost their lives, while four others were injured in a fatal road accident caused by a tyre burst in Yobe State.

The incident was confirmed by the Yobe State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement issued to journalists.

According to the statement, “On December 26, 2025, at about 1630hrs, the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call regarding a fatal motor accident along the Badejo axis.

“The incident involved a Sharon bus conveying passengers from Lawanti Area of Akko Local Government Area, Gombe State, en route to Maiduguri, Borno State.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle, driven by one Gambo Abbo, suffered a rear tyre burst while in motion.

“The sudden mechanical failure caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and plunging into the bush”.

The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, Emmanuel Ado, expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy and full recovery.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to promoting road safety across the state and advised motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations, avoid speeding and shun reckless driving.
