Several travellers are feared dead following a suspected bomb explosion along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday afternoon, throwing the area into panic and disrupting movement along the busy route.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, Yazid Abubakar, said security operatives were aware of the blast but noted that full details were still sketchy as of press time.
“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area but the incident just happened. I can’t tell you details yet. I will update you later,” he said during a telephone interview.
Although official figures were not immediately available, residents said several passengers travelling along the route were affected by the explosion.
Some locals alleged that the device might have been planted by bandits who have continued to unleash violence across parts of the state, particularly along major roads linking rural communities.
Security agencies were said to have moved to the area to assess the situation and restore calm, while investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing.
