An early-morning explosion on Tuesday jolted the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, sparking fear among residents of the area.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident but said no life was lost in the blast.

Police spokesman, Superintendent of Police Bashir Usman, said the explosion occurred in the early hours and prompted the immediate deployment of security operatives to secure the hospital and its surroundings.

According to him, a joint team of the police, military and vigilante operatives swiftly cordoned off the area to forestall any further threat, while specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit were drafted to examine the scene.

Usman disclosed that although a structure within the hospital’s staff quarters sustained damage, occupants had evacuated before the explosion, resulting in zero casualties.

He added that the Commissioner of Police had directed the reinforcement of tactical units in the area to maintain public order and reassure residents.

The police spokesman said an investigation had commenced to determine the cause of the explosion, assuring that details would be made public as findings emerge.

Residents were urged to remain calm and steer clear of the affected area to enable security agencies carry out their duties without hindrance.
