Two were confirmed dead while several others sustained injuries on December 28, 2025, after a petrol tanker rammed into multiple vehicles along the busy corridor between St. Louis College and Polo Field Club Roundabout in Jos, Plateau State.

The accident, which occurred at about 6:49 p.m., involved a fully loaded petroleum tanker and five other vehicles. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said 18 persons were caught up in the crash.

According to the FRSC, two adult males died instantly, while 16 others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were taken to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at BUTH.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the tanker developed brake failure shortly after the Plateau State Specialist Hospital Roundabout, lost control while descending, and crashed into vehicles on its path.

Security and emergency agencies promptly cordoned off the area to forestall a possible fire outbreak, diverted traffic, and prevented looting. There was no spillage of the petroleum product, which helped avert a major inferno.

Personnel of the FRSC, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Operation Rainbow, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Nigerian Army, Federal Fire Service, Vehicle Inspection Officers and the Nigerian Red Cross Society were deployed to the scene.

The tanker’s fuel was later transloaded, debris cleared, and normal traffic flow restored before midnight.

In a statement, the FRSC Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Peter Longsan, said the Sector Commander, Olajide Mogaji, commended the synergy among security agencies and the cooperation of the host community.

He advised motorists to exercise caution on the highways and promptly report emergencies through the toll-free number 122, particularly during the festive season and the New Year travels.
