The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Daniel Ajibola, over the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in Ibadan.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, confirmed the arrest in a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed, in line with ethical and legal requirements.

According to the police, the matter was reported at the Alakia Adelubi Police Division on December 25, 2025, at about 7pm.

Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly committed the act after administering an intoxicating substance to the minor.

Ajibola was said to have been arrested shortly after the complaint was lodged, while the victim was promptly taken to a medical facility for examination.

Detectives also visited the scene as part of ongoing investigations.

Haruna described the arrest as a reflection of the Command’s determination to protect residents, especially women and minors, from violent and sexual crimes.

Given the seriousness of the allegation, he directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for comprehensive and discreet investigation.

The police chief warned that the Command would not condone sexual violence or any form of abuse against vulnerable persons, stressing that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.

He further assured residents of the Command’s commitment to the safety of lives and property, urging members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.

Haruna also commended the Inspector-General of Police for his continued support, noting that it has enhanced the Command’s capacity to sustain law and order across the state.
