Gunmen shot dead a 56-year-old man and kidnapped his wife during a late-night raid on a home in Takulashe village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, police and community sources said.

The attack occurred at about 9:30pm on January 2, 2026, when assailants stormed the residence and opened fire. The deceased has been identified as Bla Abakar Maulud, while his wife, 48-year-old Maimuna Shaibu, was taken away by the attackers and remains missing.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama posted an early account of the incident on X, which was later reported to police the following morning. Officers led by the Divisional Police Officer in Chibok visited the scene and launched enquiries.

Maulud was rushed to the General Hospital in Chibok where a medical officer pronounced him dead.

His body, it was learnt, was subsequently released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.

Security agencies have mounted a manhunt in the area to locate the abducted woman and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
