The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a purported timetable for the 2027 General Election making the rounds online, urging the public and the media to ignore it.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr Adedayo Oketola, said the document did not originate from the commission and should not be accorded any credibility.

He stressed that INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 polls, describing the circulating material as misleading.

According to him, the commission conducts its operations strictly in line with the law regulating Nigeria’s electoral process. He cited Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires INEC to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before polling day.

Oketola noted that any timetable issued outside this legal window could not have emanated from INEC.

He assured Nigerians that the authentic timetable for the 2027 General Election would be unveiled at the appropriate time and would fully comply with the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and the Electoral Act, 2022.

The spokesman added that once released, the timetable would be disseminated only through INEC’s official and verified communication channels, advising the public and media organisations to rely solely on those platforms for accurate information.
