Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have recovered 912 rounds of live ammunition during a security operation in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The arms haul was discovered at Kumshe Jamba Mari area following intelligence-led surveillance by officers attached to the Lamisula Division.

Confirming the development on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the recovery marked another breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety across the state.

He explained that the operation, which took place on January 4, 2026, was carried out after credible intelligence indicated the presence of concealed ammunition in the area.

According to him, the Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division led a team of operatives to the location, where a hidden cache containing 912 rounds of B32 API ammunition of 7.62 x 51mm calibre was uncovered.

Daso said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was immediately deployed to the scene to secure the area and safely recover the ammunition in line with standard operational procedures.

The police spokesman added that the recovered items have been secured, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the ammunition and its intended use, as well as to track down those behind the concealment.

He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Naziru Abdulmajid, commended members of the public for providing timely information that led to the discovery, and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing.

The police chief also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to report suspicious activities within their neighbourhoods to security agencies.
