Residents of Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State have raised fresh concerns over their safety after gunmen carried out coordinated assaults on communities in the eastern flank of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, on Tuesday night.

Homes were reportedly looted and livestock rustled during the raids, despite claims of an ongoing peace deal between armed gangs and local authorities.

A security analyst and conflict reporter, Bakatsine, who disclosed the attacks on his X handle on Wednesday, said the renewed violence raises doubts about the credibility of the agreement recently brokered between stakeholders and the terror groups.

His report also surfaced alongside information suggesting that the state government is considering freeing about 70 suspected bandits as part of a larger peace effort.

Bakatsine warned that the attacks have deepened fears in the affected communities, noting that residents are questioning the logic of releasing detainees while villages remain vulnerable.

Security watchers have similarly cautioned that freeing suspects while assaults continue could bolster criminal confidence, weaken public trust and expose communities to further danger.

There are reports that some households have begun relocating from the area to avoid possible reprisals.

Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount on the Katsina State Government, with critics alleging that political considerations appear to be overshadowing the protection of citizens in the region.
