The Adamawa State Police Command says it has apprehended a man suspected of carrying out an acid attack on a 17-year-old resident of Yola South.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, revealing that the attack was reported at the Shagari Divisional Headquarters on January 14.

According to Nguroje, the victim, identified as Walid Kassim Mohammed, dashed into the station in distress, alleging that he was attacked with a corrosive substance while heading to a mosque.

Police operatives immediately rushed the teenager to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The alleged attacker, one Idris Hamza of Shagari community, was promptly picked up and placed in custody.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the matter and conduct a detailed inquiry,” the statement noted.

Nguroje added that updates on the case would be made available to the public as investigation progresses.
