The Oyo State Police Command has initiated a probe into a widely circulated video in which a man allegedly confessed to killing 32 people.
The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that steps had been taken to verify the content of the footage and uncover the identities of those involved.
According to him, the individual, referred to as Shawama in the video, appeared with a group while making the disturbing claims.
He, however, stressed that the command has no record of arresting anyone with such a name.
“The Command wishes to make it clear that there is no record of such a person being apprehended by its operatives at any time,” the statement noted.
Olayinka added that investigations were underway to determine the credibility of the claims and the origin of the video.
He explained that the process involves the use of modern technology, including digital forensic analysis and tracking of online footprints, to ensure accurate results.
The police also appealed to the public to support ongoing efforts by providing any useful information that could assist in identifying and arresting the suspect and his associates.
“The Command calls on individuals with relevant information to assist in tracking down those involved,” the statement added.
The command assured residents that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
