A Principal of Sapele Technical College, Sapele, Delta State, Mrs Rosemary Itawansa, has been removed from her position over alleged unauthorised farming and timber milling activities reportedly taking place on the institution’s premises.
The Delta State Ministry of Technical Education ordered her immediate redeployment to its headquarters in Asaba following a monitoring exercise across schools to assess compliance with second-term resumption.
According to findings from the inspection team, portions of the school compound had been converted for agricultural and wood processing use, in what officials described as grave abuse of office and violation of the purpose for which the land was allocated.
The ministry noted that Mrs Itawansa allegedly ignored several verbal warnings to correct administrative concerns previously raised during oversight visits.
It was further disclosed that a formal posting directive issued on January 19, 2024, relocating the principal to Model Technical College, Obiaruku, was disregarded.
“Following repeated infractions and in line with established disciplinary rules, the ministry has approved her redeployment to the Ministry of Technical Education, Asaba, for fresh posting,” the report stated.
She has been instructed to hand over to the most senior teacher and resume in Asaba on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Other lapses observed during the team’s visit included late opening of the school premises, the absence of security personnel as at 7:26am, an overgrown and unkempt compound, and continued encroachment of the campus by farming and timber operators.
The team also reported alleged collection of unauthorised levies from students, aiding of absenteeism among some corps members posted to the school, and general administrative incompetence.
Meanwhile, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday announced a minor reshuffle affecting key members of the state executive council.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, confirmed the redeployments as follows:
Mr Michael Ifeanyi Anoka moves from Physical Planning and Urban Renewal to Energy;
Hon. Sunday Tataobuzogwu switches from Energy to Physical Planning and Urban Renewal;
Mrs Rose Ezewu moves from Secondary Education to Primary Education;
Dr Kingsley Ashibuogwu takes over Secondary Education after leaving Primary Education.
The reshuffle takes immediate effect and has reportedly heightened unease among cabinet members.
