Police in Edo State have arrested a 19-year-old motorist, identified as Nsikak Okon, after a wild chase that left three officers injured and several vehicles damaged.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Friday via his official X handle, while reacting to a viral video of the suspect being restrained by security operatives.
The video, first shared on Thursday by an X user with the handle @ChuksEricE, showed the teenager being dragged out of a Mercedes-Benz he allegedly used to ram into vehicles and pedestrians while fleeing from law enforcement agents in Benin City.
Hundeyin, responding to the clip, said Okon sped past officers at a checkpoint in a heavily tinted car without number plates, ignoring orders to stop.
“You first zoomed past police officers in a reckless manner,” Hundeyin wrote.
“On your return, you nearly hit another officer. Then, as though intentional, you came again and knocked down three policemen.”
The police spokesperson disclosed that two of the injured officers had been treated and discharged, while a third remained hospitalised.
He added that Okon’s rampage continued as he collided with other vehicles before being cornered and subdued.
A search of the car reportedly yielded substances believed to be illicit drugs, prompting additional charges beyond reckless driving.
“Why start 2026 this way, 19-year-old Nsikak Okon?” Hundeyin queried, hinting that the teenager may face prosecution for assaulting law enforcement personnel, dangerous driving and drug possession.
Police authorities say further investigations are ongoing.
