The Oyo State Police Command said on Saturday that it has arrested a 27-year-old man, Usman Azeez, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl who went to fetch water at a river in Iseyin Local Government Area.

The Spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade said the report was received at the Ado-Awaye Police Division on January 15, 2026, and that officers promptly responded and ensured the victim received medical attention.

Ayanlade added that medical examination indicated injuries consistent with penetration.

“The suspect was arrested and has reportedly confessed,” the police statement said.

In a separate operation, officers from the Ojongbodu Police Division, while on routine stop and search along the Oyo–Ibadan Expressway, intercepted two suspected criminals who abandoned an unregistered motorcycle and fled.

A search of the scene yielded a locally fabricated revolver, two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, an Itel handset and the abandoned bike.

Subsequent checks showed the motorcycle had earlier been taken at gunpoint; its rightful owner has been traced, Ayanlade said.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna has directed that the matters be pursued through sustained, intelligence-led investigations aimed at dismantling the criminal network responsible, the statement added.

According to the Police, efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects.

Also reported was a suspected homicide in Atisbo Local Government Area. Preliminary findings indicate a dispute between Abdulraheem Koni, 20, and his employer, Lateef Giwa, 35, escalated into a violent attack that left Giwa with severe injuries. He was taken to hospital but later died.

An examination of the corpse reportedly revealed bruises to the neck and ribs and a fracture to the left leg.

Koni has been arrested, and because of the gravity of the offence the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for a discreet and comprehensive probe.

He will be charged once the investigation is complete.
