The Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday was briefly plunged into chaos after play was stopped for close to 20 minutes following a disputed penalty decision in favour of Morocco.
Drama unfolded in the dying minutes when the referee pointed to the spot, a call that triggered fierce protests from Senegal’s players, who argued against the decision as emotions ran high.
In response, several Senegal players abandoned the field, compelling match officials to delay the conclusion of the encounter while attempts were made to calm the situation.
The unrest spilled into the stands as aggrieved fans threw objects towards the pitch and tried to gain access to the playing area before security forces intervened to restore control.
