A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in a road accident that claimed the lives of two associates of heavyweight boxing star, Anthony Joshua, to February 25, 2026.

Kayode, 46, was arraigned before the court on January 2, with Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun presiding.

He is facing a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and damage to property, as well as driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The charges were brought under relevant sections of the Federal Highway Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.

At the resumed hearing, the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, informed the court that although the prosecution intended to present four witnesses, only three were available in court.

He consequently applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution transmit the case file to the Ogun State Attorney General’s office through the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, in the interest of justice.

The application was opposed by defence counsel, Abiodun Olalekan, who told the court that the defence was prepared to proceed with the hearing.

In her ruling, Magistrate Somefun granted the prosecution’s request and adjourned the matter until February 25 for further proceedings.

The case arose from a road crash involving a Lexus SUV linked to Joshua’s convoy, which occurred late last year and resulted in the deaths of two members of the boxer’s team.
