The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man in Akure for attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, the command confirmed on Thursday.

The suspect, identified simply as Oladimeji, was apprehended following a distress report from a woman, Bosede, of Kayode Street, Akure.

Officers from the Okuta Elerinla Divisional Police Headquarters responded promptly to the report and arrested the suspect at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Oladimeji allegedly attacked the victim with multiple fist blows, inflicted a bite injury on her left ear, and caused other injuries to her body.

The suspect also reportedly fired a gunshot at the victim, who narrowly escaped being hit.

A subsequent search of Oladimeji’s residence led to the recovery of an unlicensed single-barrel gun.

He is currently in police custody and has provided information to aid ongoing investigations.

He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, while commending his officers for the swift action, urged residents to shun violent crimes, warning that offenders face severe legal consequences.

He also reassured the public of the command’s commitment to responding promptly to complaints and ensuring justice.

The police command expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his continuous support and reforms, which have enhanced policing efficiency across the state.

CP Lawal called on residents to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and protect lives and property.
