Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has disclosed how an alleged fraudster once impersonated him in a bid to extort money from unsuspecting individuals.
Oyedepo made the revelation while delivering a sermon during a midweek church service, where he warned members against falling prey to fraudulent schemes disguised as spiritual requests.
According to the cleric, the impostor claimed to be him and contacted victims under the pretext of soliciting assistance.
The scheme, however, was eventually uncovered after one of the victims attempted to confirm the claim.
He explained that the matter came to light when the individual insisted on speaking directly with him, a request that exposed the falsehood.
The bishop lamented that fraudulent practices have infiltrated virtually every segment of society, including religious spaces, noting that his image and identity have repeatedly been exploited by scammers.
“There are fraudsters everywhere — in churches, markets, schools and across society,” Oyedepo said, urging people to exercise discernment at all times.
He advised the public to remain steadfast in truth and verification, stressing that vigilance is key to avoiding deception in an increasingly fraudulent environment.
