Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is dead.
The news of her passing was disclosed on Friday by her grandson via a Facebook post, where he confirmed that she died a few hours earlier.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came and to Him we shall all return. I wish to announce the passing of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died a few hours ago,” he wrote.
He described the deceased as the biological mother of the former governor and offered prayers for the repose of her soul, while also seeking prayers on behalf of the family.
“We thank Allah for the life she lived and pray that He grants her Aljannah Firdaus. We also ask for prayers for all our departed loved ones,” the statement added.
As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding her death had yet to be made public.
The development comes amid ongoing legal issues involving El-Rufai, who is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission following his re-arrest after an earlier detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
