The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the death of a site labourer, Abdulraheem Koni, at Budo Mosalasi village in the Saki area of the state.

Those arrested were identified as Lateef Giwa and Adediran Quazim.

The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspects were picked up following credible intelligence linked to the incident.

According to him, the deceased was working at a construction site when a disagreement reportedly broke out between him and Giwa, his employer.

The argument, he said, later degenerated into a physical confrontation.

Ayanlade explained that Koni allegedly sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by Giwa and Quazim.

He was said to have been rushed to a hospital for treatment but later died.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that a dispute arose between the employer and the deceased during work, which escalated into a physical altercation,” the statement read.

“The victim was allegedly assaulted by the suspects and sustained severe injuries.

He was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to the injuries.”

The police spokesperson added that a medical examination of the deceased confirmed the gravity of the injuries, prompting a deeper probe into the matter, including possible conspiracy.

He disclosed that the suspects allegedly made confessional statements during interrogation.

“The intelligence-led investigation established the direct involvement of the two suspects, leading to their arrest.

They have made useful statements detailing their roles in the incident,” Ayanlade said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The police urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention.

The development comes amid a series of violent incidents recorded in the state this year.
