Three police officers have been killed following an ambush by suspected bandits in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Aliyu Abubakar.
According to the statement, the attack occurred at about 12:44 p.m. on Tuesday when a team of police officers on routine anti-crime patrol along the Guga–Bakori axis came under heavy gunfire from armed assailants.
Abubakar said the officers were ambushed by the suspects, prompting a gun battle between both sides.
He disclosed that three policemen were fatally wounded during the exchange, while two others sustained injuries.
The injured officers were immediately evacuated to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The police spokesperson added that an investigation had commenced and efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest those responsible for the attack.
