A retired school vice principal, Alhaji Abdullahi Kasim Ayodele, has been accused of beating his neighbour, Mrs Caroline Agoi, to death following a disagreement over a nylon bag in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident was said to have occurred along Uselu–Isuada Road in Owo after a nylon bag was reportedly blown by the wind into the suspect’s compound.

Residents of the area disclosed that the dispute started when the retired educator accused the 54-year-old housewife of deliberately throwing the nylon into his compound, which led to a heated exchange between the two neighbours across their fence.

Sources said the argument later escalated when Ayodele, accompanied by his son, allegedly left his residence and went to the woman’s house in anger.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the suspect allegedly picked up a bench in front of the victim’s residence and, with the assistance of his son, assaulted her repeatedly until she collapsed.

A resident of the area said the victim was on the phone with her husband during the confrontation when Ayodele allegedly struck her with the bench, causing her to fall to the ground. She was later confirmed dead.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspect had been arrested.

He added that the police had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
