A distraught woman has appealed to members of the public for assistance following the abduction of her daughter, a prospective National Youth Service Corps member, who was kidnapped while travelling to orientation camp.

The woman was seen in a viral video circulating on social media, particularly on X, where she broke down in tears at a market while pleading for financial support to secure her daughter’s freedom.

The victim, identified as Binuyo Lateefah, is a Mass Communication graduate of Kwara State Polytechnic.

She was reportedly abducted in Kogi State while en route to the NYSC orientation camp in Taraba State.

Social media users who shared the footage said Lateefah is her mother’s only child.

According to updates shared by an X user, Trending Explained, the kidnappers initially contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦30m for her release.

The post added that despite efforts by the family and sympathisers, only ₦1m has been raised so far, leaving the family in distress as negotiations continue.

The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns over the safety of travellers, particularly corps members, on major highways across the country.
