The Kano State Police Command has arrested three men for their alleged involvement in the purchase of a luxury vehicle with a fake bank transfer alert, following an intelligence-led operation by its Special Intervention Squad.

The suspects, identified as Ibrahim Tijjani, Jamilu Auwal and Mohammed Nura Dauda, were apprehended on January 28, 2026, at Kabuga Quarters in Kano after actionable intelligence was received by the police.

According to the command, the suspects allegedly acquired a white Mercedes-Benz GLE in Gwarinpa, Abuja, for the sum of ₦75m using a fraudulent transfer alert.

The fake alert was said to have been generated and sent by one Ibrahim Yahaya, who is currently on the run.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on January 30, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the operation was carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on sustained intelligence-driven policing and continuous visibility patrols across the country.

Bakori said the arrest highlighted the command’s determination to tackle financial crimes and other criminal activities through proactive policing strategies.

He commended operatives of the Special Intervention Squad for their swift response and professionalism, adding that the recovered vehicle had been transferred to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for further investigation.

The police boss urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.

He assured the public that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect and ensure that all those connected to the alleged crime are brought to justice, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property in Kano State.
