The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs, including 101 wraps of Canadian loud and nine bags of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, during an operation in Ibadan.

The seizure was made at an apartment located on Abanise Street, Academy area of Olomi, following actionable intelligence, the police said on Sunday.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the apartment was allegedly being used as a storage facility for illegal drugs by a suspect identified as Oluwadamilare, who is currently on the run.

Olayinka said detectives were immediately deployed to the location after the information was received, leading to a thorough search of the apartment and its surroundings.

“During the operation, nine bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 101 wraps of dried leaves believed to be Canadian loud, as well as other hard and illicit drugs, were recovered and secured as exhibits,” he said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, had ordered intensified surveillance and a coordinated manhunt to track down the fleeing suspect.

The police boss also commended the support of community stakeholders and other security partners, noting that their cooperation played a key role in the successful operation.

Investigations are ongoing, the command said, as efforts continue to dismantle drug distribution networks across the state.
