The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three young children by suspected kidnappers in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The children were reportedly taken in the early hours of Saturday at Nkwegu, opposite the Nkwegu Military Cantonment gate, in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Joshua Ukandu, said the victims included one male child aged two and two female children aged four and two respectively.
“Yes, the command is aware of the incident. It occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 7. “The suspects abducted three children from the area.”
He added that the incident was formally reported by the parents of the abducted children, noting that no contact had been made by the kidnappers as of the time of filing this report.
“There has been no ransom demand so far, and no arrests have been made. However, our operatives have commenced investigation and are intensifying efforts to rescue the children safely,” the police spokesperson said.
The incident has sparked fresh concern among residents over the safety of children in the area, amid growing reports of kidnapping cases in parts of the state.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and provide any useful information that could aid the rescue operation and lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
