A man identified as Iseleto has fled Osubi community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State after allegedly stabbing his 23-year-old son, Miracle, to death on Sunday.
It was gathered that the incident was linked to a domestic dispute within the family.
Sources said the deceased had rented a separate apartment for himself and his father’s wife in a bid to ease tension and restore peace in the household.
The move, however, was said to have angered his father, who allegedly lured him into a nearby bush and stabbed him multiple times with a dagger.
After the attack, the suspect reportedly escaped from the community, leaving the victim critically injured.
It was learnt that Miracle managed to crawl from the bush to the roadside, where passersby found him and rushed him to a nearby hospital.
The victim was said to have died later after narrating how his father deceived him into going to the bush and attacked him.
Sources further disclosed that the suspect admitted committing the act during a phone conversation with his step-daughter.
He was also said to have contacted other relatives, informing them of the killing and threatening to harm his wife and step-daughter for leaving the marital home and ending the marriage.
Some residents of Osubi, who spoke with journalists, described the suspect as a habitual drunkard and chronic debtor who frequently assaulted his wife.
They alleged that he often beat his wife after drinking excessively and had, on several occasions, attempted to force himself on her in the presence of their children.
The residents also claimed that the suspect once attempted to assault his step-daughter, forcing her out of the house after she resisted him.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
“Yes, the incident is confirmed. The suspect is currently at large,” he said.
