Security operatives on Thursday allegedly made an attempt to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The allegation was raised by the former governor’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, who disclosed the development in a post on his verified X handle shortly after the incident.
Adekeye stated that the operatives approached El-Rufai as he arrived in Abuja from Cairo, Egypt, and sought to take him into custody.
According to him, the former governor refused to accompany the security agents, insisting that he would not respond to their request in the absence of a formal invitation.
“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation,” the statement read.
The aide further alleged that during the encounter, the operatives confiscated El-Rufai’s passport.
“They, however, seized his passport from an aide,” Adekeye claimed.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security authorities regarding the incident.
