Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade have killed two suspected terrorists during a clearance operation along ‌the Akunu–Auga Road in Ondo State.

The operation, carried out by soldiers attached to the Forward Operating Base in Auga, followed what the military described as credible intelligence on the movement of armed criminals within the axis.

Confirming the development, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Brigade, Major Irabor Njoka, said the troops acted swiftly on the intelligence, mobilised to the area and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.

According to him, the confrontation led to the death of two of the suspects, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries owing to the superior firepower of the troops.

He disclosed that the operation was conducted in collaboration with operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, and local vigilante groups.

Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition.

Other exhibits were three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit substances, charms and the sum of N39,000, among other personal belongings.

The Brigade said the successful operation underscored the Nigerian Army’s resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and to safeguard lives and property across the state.

It added that troops would sustain aggressive clearance missions and intensified patrols along identified flashpoints, while strengthening synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders.

Residents were urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces, as community support remains crucial to ongoing efforts to curb criminality in the state.
