The lawyer representing Mirabel, the TikTok content creator embroiled in a controversial sexual assault allegation, has urged members of the public to exercise restraint while the police conclude their investigation into the matter.
The legal practitioner, Taofeek Akinbo, made the appeal in a series of posts shared on X on Friday, confirming his involvement in the case and calling for patience amid heightened reactions on social media.
Akinbo stated that the case was being treated with due diligence and professionalism, assuring the public that due process was being followed.
“Please be assured that this matter is being handled with the utmost diligence, professionalism, and respect for due process,” he wrote.
He further appealed for calm as the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Gender and Rape Allied Matters Unit of the Zone 2 Area Command, Abeokuta, continues its investigation.
“We kindly urge the public to exercise patience as we await the outcome of the ongoing investigation,” he added.
The lawyer also commended the police for their efforts so far, noting that updates would be provided at the conclusion of the investigative process.
His intervention comes amid sustained public discourse surrounding the allegation, which has generated intense debate across social media platforms.
Earlier, the Ogun State Police Command disclosed that Mirabel had been discharged from the hospital but remained with the police to assist in ongoing inquiries.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, revealed this during an interview with News Central Television, explaining the circumstances that led to Mirabel’s hospitalisation.
According to her, the TikToker voluntarily reported at the Ibafo Police Division but was initially unable to give a coherent account during preliminary questioning. This, she said, necessitated urgent medical attention at a state hospital.
She noted that officers acted in good faith, considering the gravity of the allegations contained in the viral TikTok video and subsequent posts on X.
Babaseyi stated that the Divisional Police Officer ensured that Mirabel received prompt medical care and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
The police spokesperson, however, emphasised that Mirabel was not arrested at any time, stressing that her welfare remained a priority.
“She has been discharged from the hospital and is currently with us as we continue the investigation to determine the veracity of the allegations,” she said.
The controversy began after Mirabel, known on TikTok as @mirab351, posted an emotional video alleging she was sexually assaulted in her apartment, sparking widespread outrage and calls for justice.
While early online reactions suggested the incident occurred in Lagos State, preliminary findings later indicated that it took place in Ogijo, Ogun State, thereby placing the matter under the jurisdiction of the Ogun State Police Command.
Amid conflicting narratives circulating online, the police reiterated that Mirabel voluntarily presented herself and dismissed reports claiming she had been arrested, maintaining that investigations are ongoing.
