Operatives of the Borno State Police Command have intercepted 13 sacks filled with vandalised high-tension electrical cables and arrested two suspects in Gubio Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was carried out by officers of the Rapid Response Squad attached to the Anti-Social Vice Unit following intelligence reports on the activities of suspected cable thieves.

In a statement issued, the command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso, said the suspects were apprehended on January 26, 2026, at about 10am.

He identified the suspects as Saminu Muhammed, 24, and Mohammed Bukar, 25, noting that they were caught in possession of 13 sacks containing damaged high-tension power cables.

According to Daso, the recovered items had been carefully concealed and disguised as animal feed in an attempt to evade detection.

The spokesperson stated that investigations had been intensified to unravel other individuals who might be linked to the crime, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the probe.

He said the operation underscored the command’s renewed resolve to tackle the vandalism and theft of critical public infrastructure across the state.
