The Anambra State Government has arrested a well-known Nnewi-based native doctor popularly identified as De Young Chief Priest as part of its ongoing clampdown on traditionalists allegedly linked to criminal activities.

Security operatives reportedly apprehended the spiritualist on Thursday at his office in Nnewi, Anambra State, over allegations of engaging in unlawful practices.

Sources familiar with the development disclosed that the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation by authorities as investigations continue into claims that some native doctors provide spiritual backing for criminal elements operating in the area.

Officials have yet to disclose full details of the allegations levelled against the suspect.

It was further gathered that the arrest may be connected to the state government’s wider security operation targeting native doctors accused of preparing charms believed to embolden kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminal

The operation forms part of efforts by the state authorities to curb rising criminal activities and dismantle networks suspected of aiding violent crimes across the state.
