Gunmen invade Kebbi community, kill man, abduct wife

Gunmen on Thursday killed a 35-year-old man, Sufiyanu Garba, and abducted his wife during an attack in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day, throwing residents of the area into panic.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kebbi State, SP Bashir Usman, said the command had launched an investigation into the attack.

He said the police were deeply concerned about the incident, which occurred on March 13, 2026, and led to the death of Garba and the abduction of his wife.

According to him, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene after the report of the attack was received, while preliminary investigations commenced without delay.

Usman disclosed that the victim was taken to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

The police spokesperson added that a security checkpoint was situated not far from the location of the incident, stressing that timely information from residents could enable security operatives to respond swiftly during emergencies.

He further revealed that the Commissioner of Police had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

Usman said the move was aimed at rescuing the abducted woman and ensuring that those behind the attack were apprehended and prosecuted.

The command, however, reassured residents of its commitment to improving security across the state and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities or emergencies through the police 24-hour distress lines.
