The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that four bandits were apprehended at the Akure Airport, describing the information as false and misleading.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said in a statement on Sunday that no such arrest took place at the airport and that there was no security breach at the facility.
He noted that the report circulating on some media platforms was inaccurate and capable of creating unnecessary fear among residents.
Jimoh, however, explained that the command earlier received credible intelligence from a concerned citizen about suspicious activities linked to suspected kidnappers around the Eleyewo area of Akure.
Acting on the information, police operatives carried out a targeted operation in the area, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
Preliminary findings, according to the police, indicated that the suspects were involved in supplying logistics to kidnapping gangs operating within the state.
The command added that the suspects had made confessional statements which were aiding ongoing investigations aimed at tracking down other members of the criminal network.
The police therefore urged members of the public to ignore the claim about bandits being arrested at the airport, assuring residents that security around key facilities in the state remains intact.
