The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has urged residents of Abuja to embrace the values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity symbolised by the Ramadan season, even as the country prepares for its 2027 general elections.

Wike, in an Eid Al-Fitr message to FCT residents on Friday, congratulated the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, describing the holy month as a period of spiritual rejuvenation, self-reflection, and renewal.

He said, “As we celebrate Eid Fitr, the culmination of the Ramadan fast, I urge you all to carry forward the values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity that Ramadan embodies.”

The minister noted that the Eid celebration also presented a fitting moment for Nigerians to pray for their leaders and the country’s continued peace and progress.

Wike praised both individuals and corporate organisations in the FCT for their show of solidarity with Muslims and non-Muslims alike during the fasting period, describing their conduct as a demonstration of commitment to Abuja’s status as the Centre of Unity, Peace and Harmony.

With nationwide campaigns expected to commence ahead of the 2027 general elections, Wike assured FCT residents that the Administration would ensure a conducive environment for the orderly hosting of all political activities in the capital.

He urged all residents, irrespective of political affiliation, gender, or tribe, to maintain peaceful conduct throughout the year, saying, “I urge all residents to take a cue from the Muslim Ummah and maintain peaceful conduct while praying for the FCT and the nation as a whole.”

The minister also expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said had uplifted the socioeconomic fortunes of FCT residents and bolstered security in the nation’s capital.

Wike reassured residents that security agencies were working round the clock to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration, urging them to go about their activities without fear.

He reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to securing lives and property while developing Abuja into a world-class city.

“May Allah accept our fasts, prayers, and good deeds, and grant us a blessed Eid. May we emerge stronger, more united, and more determined to build a prosperous FCT,” Wike added.
