Abiodun Ayoyinka, the veteran actor who brought the iconic character Papa Ajasco to life for decades, has announced a rebranding of his public persona.
In a video shared on Instagram on Saturday, Ayoyinka formally introduced his new stage identity as Bondu Alaska.
The announcement follows his recent statement about financial difficulties and a public disagreement with Wale Adenuga, founder of Wale Adenuga Productions, over the use of the “Papa Ajasco” brand.
“Good morning Nigerians. I am Bondu Alaska, the one and only Bondu Alaska,” he said in the video, which quickly went viral.
He expressed gratitude to fans for their support, saying, “I appreciate all Nigerians for the encouragement. I’m starting a new chapter, and I promise not to disappoint you.”
To reinforce his new identity, Ayoyinka updated his Instagram handle to @bondualaska_ and urged fans and brands to engage with him using the new name.
However, many fans found it hard to let go of the beloved Papa Ajasco persona. One Instagram user, hhenriey, commented, “You are Papa Ajasco, not Bondu Alaska. We’ll help you spread it to the world.”
Another fan, official_igbalodedjpizzle, joked, “Na Papa Ajasco. Nothing wey you wan tell him, cuz NEPA na still NEPA.”
Observers say the rebranding could be a strategic response to legal restrictions tied to the Papa Ajasco character.
Wale Adenuga has dismissed Ayoyinka’s claims of being broke as “misleading” and “untrue,” noting that the actor had received various benefits over the years, including vehicles.
Adenuga also clarified that actors were never prohibited from taking other work outside the show, though the brand must be safeguarded against misuse.
The announcement signals a new phase in Ayoyinka’s career as he seeks to redefine himself while keeping his connection with audiences.
