The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued three victims following an abduction incident captured on Closed-Circuit Television in the Oda area of Akure.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the operation was carried out through intelligence-driven policing and coordinated field actions.
According to the statement, the arrests were triggered by the circulation of a CCTV video on social media showing the abduction of a victim by suspected criminals in Oda. The Command subsequently deployed its intelligence team to analyse the footage and track down those involved.
Police operatives attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad were said to have acted on credible intelligence and investigative leads obtained from the footage, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
Further interrogation reportedly yielded information that resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects believed to have participated in the crime.
The suspects were identified as Mohammed Koro (27), Muhammad Usman (30), and Musa Alhaji (23).
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects played different roles in the execution of the alleged kidnapping.
The Command also confirmed the rescue of three victims earlier abducted by the syndicate.
They were identified as Tosin Adesida, Adeniran Adesuyi, and Adewunmi Adewusi.
Jimoh stated that the victims had been debriefed and taken to a medical facility for treatment, while the suspects had made useful confessions aiding efforts to apprehend other members of the gang still at large.
He added that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the Command’s resolve to tackle crime, warning that the state would not serve as a haven for criminals.
He assured residents of sustained efforts to protect lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information.
The Command further appealed to residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, assuring them that proactive measures were in place to curb criminal activities across the state.
