The Ondo State Police Command has taken into custody a 21-year-old suspect, Alabi Anthony, in connection with the death of a woman, Olaseni Veronica, in Iboropa, Akoko axis of the state.
The arrest, according to the command, followed credible intelligence that led operatives to launch a probe into the incident.
Police said the investigation gained momentum after detectives traced the victim’s missing mobile phone, which eventually led them to the suspect.
During questioning, the suspect was said to have admitted to committing the crime, confessing that he had sexual relations with the victim before allegedly taking her life.
Describing the incident as disturbing, the command assured residents that the matter would be thoroughly handled to ensure justice is achieved.
The police added that the case has been moved to the state headquarters in Akure for further discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police called on residents to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities.
He also cautioned against speculation in cases of sudden or unnatural deaths, stressing the importance of credible information in aiding investigations.
