Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, under the aegis of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, convened in Lagos on Sunday for a high-level meeting ahead of the party’s governorship primaries slated for next month.
The meeting, which took place at the Eko Hotel in Victoria Island, followed an earlier visit by the governors to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi.
The governors were said to have congratulated him on his recent state visit to the United Kingdom and the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Although 31 APC governors are expected to participate, about 21 had arrived at the venue as of 9:40 p.m.
Sources indicated that key deliberations at the meeting would centre on strategies to ensure peaceful and credible conduct of the party’s forthcoming primaries.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, presided over the session, while Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, played host.
Among governors present at the meeting were Mai Mala Buni, Dapo Abiodun, Sheriff Oborevwori, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Bassey Otu, Agbu Kefas, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Monday Okpebholo.
Others in attendance included Umo Eno, Abdullahi Sule, Siminalayi Fubara, Usman Ododo, Francis Nwifuru, Caleb Mutfwang, Abba Yusuf, Umaru Bago, Peter Mbah, Namadi Umar, Dikko Umaru Radda and Douye Diri.
The forum is expected to release a communiqué at the end of its deliberations.
