Tragedy struck Ridawa village in Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday after a pit caved in, reportedly trapping an unspecified number of brick workers.

The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of the day while the labourers were excavating earth for brick production.

Sources in the community disclosed that the workers were inside the pit when it suddenly collapsed, burying many beneath the rubble.

Residents expressed fears that several of the trapped victims might have lost their lives, while others reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries.

It was further gathered that rescue operations had commenced, with locals and emergency responders making frantic efforts to reach those still trapped underground.

As of the time of filing this report, some victims were yet to be pulled out, heightening concerns over their survival.

The lawmaker representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, confirmed the incident, noting that about 10 persons were believed to be trapped.

He urged relevant authorities to urgently intervene in the rescue efforts to avert further casualties.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency had not received any official report regarding the incident.

“We are yet to get any report about the incident. The Ghari office has also not been informed. Once we receive details, we will provide updates,” he said.
