A 45-year-old man, Segun Makinde, has recounted how operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, rescued him and his 15-year-old son from suspected kidnappers after a late-night operation along Oda Road in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Makinde told journalists that the incident occurred on March 27, 2026, shortly after he arrived at his residence in the Pelebe area on the outskirts of Akure.

Confirming the development earlier, the Corps Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the victims were abducted between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

He disclosed that operatives of the Amotekun Rapid Response Squad later tracked the kidnappers to a forest location, where they engaged them in a gun duel around 1:00 a.m., forcing the assailants to abandon the victims and flee.

Recounting his ordeal, Makinde said armed men attacked him at his home, opened fire on his vehicle, and forcefully dragged him and his son into the bush after inflicting injuries on him.

He added that the abductors, who were initially about five in number, were later joined by other accomplices as they moved deeper into the forest.

“They forced us to trek for hours, beating me and threatening to kill us if we resisted,” he said.

Makinde further explained that an opportunity to escape presented itself when they heard voices nearby, unaware that Amotekun operatives had already surrounded the area.

“As we attempted to escape, the kidnappers started shooting, but the Amotekun operatives responded immediately. In the ensuing confusion, we ran further into the bush,” he narrated.

He said after hiding for some time, the operatives eventually located and rescued them.

According to him, the security personnel administered first aid before conveying them to the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, for further treatment.

“They treated our injuries and ensured our safety. I am deeply grateful for their swift intervention,” Makinde added.
