Residents of Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State were thrown into grief over the weekend after a tipper truck allegedly knocked down and killed a nine-year-old girl.

The incident occurred at Supare Junction along Supare Road, leaving the community in shock.

Eyewitnesses said the young girl was struck by the truck under circumstances that have yet to be fully clarified, sparking tension in the area.

She was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital after the accident but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the driver of the vehicle had been arrested.

He disclosed that the victim, identified as Fatima Ibrahim, was hit by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck.

“The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor,” he said.

Abayomi added that the vehicle involved had been recovered for inspection, while investigations were ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

The police spokesperson expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured that the command would ensure justice is served.

He also cautioned motorists to observe traffic rules and drive responsibly to avoid preventable accidents.

The command reiterated its commitment to carrying out a thorough investigation into the incident.
