The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a junior staff member of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Mr Ikenna Onuoha, whose body was discovered along a bush path in the Amaeke-Isiadu area of Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Onuoha, described by colleagues as cheerful and committed, was reportedly found lifeless at night last week, sparking shock and anxiety among his family, friends and co-workers at the medical facility.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said officers were alerted to the development, prompting detectives to visit the scene for preliminary assessment and documentation.

She disclosed that no visible injuries were found on the deceased, adding that the remains had been deposited in a morgue pending further examination.

Chinaka noted that initial findings pointed to a suspected suicide, though she emphasised that investigations were still ongoing.

“The body has been evacuated to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Preliminary observations suggest a case of suspected suicide, but investigation is in progress and the public will be updated accordingly,” she said.
